History of Arlem Breweries Ltd.

YEAR EVENTS 1966 - The Comp. was Incorporated on 21st September, at Mormugao, Goa.

- The Comp. was jointly promoted by Chowgule and Co., Pvt. Ltd., Mormugao, Goa & Shri V.D. Chowgule.

- The Company object is to manufacture beers equal in quality to the Pilsner & European Continental Lager types.

1967 - 4,08,000 shares taken up by promoters, directors, etc. 3,92,000 shares offered at par to the public in January, 1968.

1973 - The name of Comp. was changed from Pilsner Breweries India Ltd., to Arlem Breweries, Ltd.

1987 - The Comp. established a project for manufacture of digital electronic private automatic branch exchange [EPABXs] with a capacity of 20,000 lines per annum at Bethora, Ponda, Goa. - An industrial licence was received for manufacture of mini computer/microprocessor based systems with annual capacity of Rs.6 crores in terms of value. The Comp. undertook manufacture of electronic cash registers/invoicing machines to supplement the activities of electronics division.

1988 - Applications were made to the Central Government seeking industrial licence for enhancement of beer manufacturing capacity from 50,000 hectolitres to 2,00,000 hectolitres per annum. It was pending still with the Centra Govt.

1991 - 4,00,000 bonus shares allotted in prop. 1:2.

1995 - The Brewery division resulted in profit, the Comp. could not maintain profitability of Brewery division due to lower realisation & increase in competition.

- The electronics division was closed down due to uneconomical operations, continuous loses prevailing market conditions & lack of future prospects.

- Techno export, Czechoslovakia were the Comp. technical collaborators for its brewery project.

2002-Arlem Breweries Ltd has informed BSE that it has been declared as Sick Industrial Comp. under section 3[1s][0s] of Sick Industrial Companies [Special Provisionss] Act, 1985. BIFR had appointed Bank of Baroda as an Operating Agency.
