History of Berger Paints [Indias] Ltd.

1923

- The Comp. was incorporated on 17th December, in West Bengal. The Company manufacture & sell paints, varnishes, dry colours, enamels, pastes, distemper, ships paints, boiler components & various other kinds of paints to meet the requirements of trade, commerce and industry. Some of brands manufactured are Castle, Parrot, Duroglaze, Luxol, Murisan, Synthetic, Soligum, Apexior, etc.

1975

- The Protection Paints division was launched to specialise in heavy duty paints required to withstand exacting conditions of high chemical and atmospheric corrosion in chemical process industries & other allied industires & installations.

1986

- The Comp. concluded a technology agreement with Vaspar Corporation of U.S.A. for manufacture of highly anti-corrosive coatings.

1995

- The Comp. proposed to set up a new factory at Pondicherry with an installed capacity of 18,000 tpa of paints, enamels & varnishes and 6,000 tpa of synthetic resins. It was also proposed to augment the existing powder manufacturing capacities at theplant in Howrah.

2000

- The Comp. proposes to expand its operation through acquisitions, both internally & externally, & strategic partnership, preferably with foreign firms.

- Crisil has upgraded the fixed deposit programme of Berger Paints from FAA to FAA+.

2001

- Berger Paints India limited has unveiled a new brand promotion strategy which it claims to be the first of its kind in the industry.

- Despite a slight increase in sales, the net profit of Berger Paints India Ltd has dropped by around 10 per cent for half-year ended September 30, 2001.

- Berger Paints Ltd & ICI Ltd, have formed a 50:50 joint venture to manufacture auto & industrial coatings at Rishra in West Bengal.

2002

-Board decides to pay interim dividend @25% on the ordinary shares.

-Acquires 50% stake in Berger Auto and Industrial Coating limited

-Signs term sheet for acquiring the entire paint business[including the entire intellectual property rights s] of Snowcem India Ltd.

-inducts Jalal Dani as the Chairman of Comp. , after buying out 50.1% stake in the Singapore based paints company.

2003

-BOD decided not to amalgamate Berger Auto and Industrial Coatings Ltd with the company.

-Board recommends a dividend @ 60% on equity capital of company.

-Posts 54% growth in the net profit to Rs.14.14cr for second quarter end.

2004

-Delhi based Punjab National Bank [PNBs] & Bangalore-based Vijaya Bank enter into a four-way partnership with Principal Financial of US & Berger Paints to set up an insurance broking company

2006

- Berger Paints India Ltd has entered into a Joint Venture Agreement [JVs] with Nippon Bee Chemical Co Ltd of Japan for purpose of formation of Comp. for manufacture & sale of coatings for plastic substrates used in automobiles & parts thereof in India.

2007

- Berger Paints India Ltd has entered into a Joint Venture Agreement [JVs] with Nippon Bee Chemical Co Ltd of Japan for purpose of formation of Comp. for manufacture & sale of coatings for plastic substrates used in automobiles & parts thereof in India.

2008

- Berger Paints India Ltd has informed that Mr. Gerald Kenneth Adams has been appointed as a Director of Comp. effective January 30, 2008.
