The Comp. was incorporated on 26th February, 1987 at New Delhi as Savak Electronics Pvt. limited & was converted into a Public Limited Comp. on 25th August, 1989. The name was changed to Onida Savak Ltd.; on 31st August, 1989. The promoters of Comp. are S/Shri L.G. Mirchandani, G.L.Mirchandani & S.L.Mirchandani.
The main objects & activities of Comp. include the manufacture of colour/black and white TV receivers, electronic tubers & washing machines.
According to a news reported dated. 2/6/90, the Comp. had plans to undertake a project for manufacture of fly back transformers, a critical component for colour televisions. The Comp. had also obtained letters of intent for manufacture of white goods such as refrigerators, dish washers & vaccum cleaners.
The company expansion-cum-backward integration project at NOIDA involved the manfufacture of televisions [Colours] black and White televisions, washing machines & electronic tuners. The tuners were to be manufactured in collaboration with Murata Mfg. Co. limited of japan . The washing machines were to be the programmable top-loading, twin-tube type and were to be manufactured using bought-out assemblies. The Comp. was in the process of acquiring moulds & it was proposed to do the moulding outside on a job work basis manor portion of plant & machinery were to be imported from Matsushita, Ikegami, Sanyo & Murata, all from Japan. The assembly equipment for washing-machine was to be obtained from indigenous sources. TV were to be of chip type for meeting the group requirements of colour TV & subsequently VCR's. It was proposed to manufacture the entire range of Onida Colour television models and later on to keep adding on new models based on market requirements. In the black and white segment, it was proposed to manfufacture only 14' sets.
The company electronic tuner plant was commissioned in March 1990. During October-December 1991, the Comp. proposed to launch a new model twin tube washing machine with over 90% indegenisation. During 1990-91, a letter of Intent was received for expansion of electronic tuners capacity from 3 lakh nos. to 6 lakh nos.
