History of Rockland Thermionics Ltd.

The Comp. was incorporated on 21st June 1988 under the Companies Act, 1956, to manufacture welding Electrodes of all types. The certificate for commencement of business was granted on July 14, 1988 by Registrar of Companies, Delhi and Haryana. Due to pre-occupation of Directors the actual implementation of project started in 1991 & the commercial production on July 1, 1994. The project was appraised at that stage, by Uttar Pradesh Financial Corporation which had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 34.20 lakhs, towards purchase of Plant and Machinery. The Directors of company, however, did not avail the loan facilities as they decided to finance the project through equity share capital.

The Company product of Welding Electrodes is an engineering consumable used in welding operations in development, repairs or any related works in industries. About 5 kgs of welding material is used for each tonne of steel. Steel is one of major industrial products for development/growth of economy. Welding material has good demand in the market which increases in direct proportion to the increase in use of steels. The major user of welding electrodes include fabrication units, powers, steel, fertilizer, cement, shipbuilding & automotive industries. These industries are located all over the country. As per the Company estimates, the total market is of order of Rs. 800 crores in the organised & unorganised sectors.

The demand for welding electrodes & services is directly related to the growth of core industries in the country which in turn affect the total growth in the economy. As per the company estimates the annual growth rate for Welding Electrodes in quantitative terms is likely to be 5% - 6%.
