History of Tamil Nadu Industrial Explosives Ltd.

The Comp. was incorporated on 9th February 1983. The main objects of Comp. is to manufacture Nitro Glycerine based commercial and explosives and accessories. A detonators & detonating fuse projects was implemented in technical collaboration with Josef Meissners GmbH and Co., West Germany. The project with an installed capacity of 45 million of numbers of Detonators per annum, & 10 million meters of Detonating fuses per annum. It was completed & commercial production started from January 1989.

The factory is located at Vandranthangal Village, Panamadangi Reserve forest at Christianpet, Katpadi Vellore. The installed capacity is 15000 tpa of Nitro Glycerine explosives & the project commenced commercial production in April 1986.

The small diameter N G Explosives catridging capacity has also been optimised with additional 2500 MT tpa at an estimated cost of Rs.150 lakhs.

During this 1996-97 the Comp. developed a new brand of Slurry Explosives in the title TELDINE which have been successful during trials. Effective steps are being taken to introduce them into the market. The Comp. proposes to start an emulsion explosives unit and SMS type plants in the near future to fill-up the vacuum that may be created by slow phasing - out NG products. Also to overcome the key-raw materials problem the Comp. has a proposal to establish an AN Plant to cater to its own requirements.
