1979
- The Comp. was incorporated on 16th April, with a capacity of manufacture 50,000 tpa. of newsprint, & 40,000 tpa of printing and writing paper. It was promoted by Government of Tamil Nadu for the manufacture of Newsprint & Printing & Writing Papers using bagasse as the primary raw material. It manufactures newsprint, writing and printing paper.
1993
- The wind farm at Devarkulam was commissioned on December and that at Perunguadi in March. The Comp. undertook to double its existing capacity.
1996
- The Comp. diversified into non-conventional area of energy by setting up a 15MW captive wind farm in Nellai, Kattabomman district in Tamil Nadu.
1997
- 500,00,000 No. of equity shares allotted to promoters i.e. Government of Tamil Nadu. During November 1995, the Comp. issued 200,00,000 No. of equity shares of Rs 10 each at a prem. of Rs 100 per share through a prospectus. Of which the following were reserved for allotment on a preferential basis:
- [is] 3,30,000 shares to Indian working directors, workers of the Company [only 2,76,500 shares taken ups].
- [iis] 21,70,000 shares to NRIs [all were taken ups]. Of the remaining 175,00,000 shares issued to the public along with 53,500 shares not taken up by employees.
- The expansion project of TNPL was to double its capacity from 90,000 tonnes per annum to 1,80,000 tonnes per annum.
- The ministry of commerce has proposed to impose anti-dumping duty on newsprint ranging from Rs.1,048 to Rs.6,250 per tonne for imports from USA, Canada & Russia.
1998
- The Comp. has signed an MOU with Quena Newsprint, Egypt for providing technical assistance & support for erection and commissioning of Newsprint & Paper Mill in Egypt.
- Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd [TNPLs], a Tamil Nadu Government undertaking, has committed in the Chennai High Court that it would stop discharging its effluents into the Pugalur channel within 3 months.
- The Comp. has installed two captive turbo generators for generating about 26 MW of power. In addition, the Comp. has also setting up a turbo generator of 10.5 MWs capacity to fed the TNEB power grid.
- The Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd [TNPLs] in Karur district has enhanced mechanical bagasse pulping [MBPs] utilisation to about 30 per cent against the envisaged 50 per cent in its DPR in its new paper machines after the World Bank decision to fund the project.
- An MoU was signed by TNPL & Quena Newsprint & Paper Comp. of Egypt.
- The Comp. has also acquired ISO 9001 certification from RW TUV, a German Comp. through its Indian arm TUV Pvt Ltd.
- Photocopier paper named 'TNPL COPIER' was developed to meet the requirement of customer with 75% chemical bagasse pulp.
1999
- Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd is mulling a proposal to manage the Karnataka-based Mandya National Paper mill [MNPMs] -- a sick unit, as a pilot project for a limited period.
- TNPL is the first commercially successful bagasse based newsprint plant in the world.
- Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd [TNPLs] is on the verge of finalising a long-term agreement with the Coimbatore-based Sakthi Sugars for supply of bagasse.
- The Comp. has signed an MOU with Quena Newsprint, Egypt for providing technical assistance & support for erection and commissioning of Newsprint & Paper Mill in Egypt.
- The Comp. has introduced a branded value added product viz. TNPL Excel Maplitho & has improved the quality of TNPL copier & other varieties of paper.
2000
- The FA+ rating assigned to the FD issue of Comp. has been reaffirmed.
- The Comp. has been selected for Mother Teresa Award for best corporate citizen by Loyola Institute of Business Administration [LIBAs].
2001
- Crisil has upgraded the fixed deposit program of Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers limited from FA+ to FAA.
2002
-Thiru Arun Ramanathan has been appointed as Director of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd in place of Thiru M A Gowrishankar w.e.f. June 25, 2002. Thiru Arun Rananathan is also holding additional charge as Chairman & Managing Director of Company. Thiru N Narayanan has been appointed as Director of Comp. in place of Thiru R Sathanam w.e.f June 25, 2002. Thiru Sanwat Ram has been appointed as Director of Comp. in place of Thiru K Allaudin w.e.f. June 25, 2002.
-Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd has informed BSE that Thiru R S Agarwal has been appointed as Director of Comp. in place of Thiru E S Jayaraman with effect from November 14, 2002.
2003
-Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd informs that Thiru R S Kannan IAS is appointed as a Director of Comp. w.e.f May 23, 2003 in place of Thiru Sanwat Ram, IAS.
-TNPL prepays its World Bank loan enabling a drastic cut in its cost of debt.
-TNPL appoints Canadian AMEC E and C Services Ltd to carry out the feasbilty study.
-Thiru Anant Ramanathan is appointed as the Director on the board of TNPL.
- Thiru K Skandan, IAS has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director in place of Thiru P Rama Mohana Rao, IAS.
2007
-Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd has appointed Thiru K. Phanindra Reddy, IAS & Thiru R. L. Narasimhan as Directors of our Comp. with effect from 23.01.2007.
-Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd has appointed Thiru M F Farooqui, IAS as Director-cum-part-time Chairman of Comp. with effect from November 22, 2007 in place of Thiru Shaktikanta Das, IAS & Tmt. Anita Praveen, IAS has been appointed as Director of Comp. with effect from December 06, 2007, in place of Thiru K Phanindra Reddy, IAS.
