Steel tube industry has a licensed capacity of about 3.5 Million Tons at present with equal installed capacity. The industry has been operating at 35% capacity utilisation due to inadequate supply of raw material. As a measure of liberalised policies the availability of raw materials has improved resulting in improved capacity utilisation. The present production of Steel Pipes and Tubes is about 1 Million Tonnes to 1.5 Million Tonnes. The demand for Steel Tubes and Pipes is related to various schemes drawn up by the Govt of India for potable water in villages, setting of tubewells for irrigation purposes, housing & other allied activities. With the liberalisation of various policies and easy availability of raw materials the steel tube industry is poised for expansion in domestic as well as export markets.
