History of Torrent Cables limited [Olds]

Torrent Cables Ltd [previously known as Mahendra Electricals ltds] was promoted by Mr J C Patel, Chattered Electrical Engineer in 1960.

The Company, formerly known as Mahendra Electricals Limited promoted by Shri J C Patel, Chartered Engineer, in collaboration with M/s Johnson and Phillips of UK [now known as Delta Crompton Cables Ltd UKs] was incorporated on 26th November,1960. The Comp. set up a plant for manufacturing PVC Power Cables upto 95 SQ.MM. under Industrial Licence No L/5[1s] N-74/60 dated 13-05-1960 issued by Ministry of Industry, Government of India. The Comp. was granted Industrial License bearing No.CIL 259[78s] dated 12-12-1978 issued by Ministry of Industry, Government of India to manufacture XLPE Cables. The facilities for manufacturing XLPE Cables were installed in 1982 but couldn't be successfully commissioned because of sad demise of Shri J C Patel & later on his son, Shri Mahendra Patel. After the takeover of Comp. by Torrent Group in July, 1989, the Comp. with active support of M/s John Royle of U S A started commercial production of XLPE Cables from September, 1991.

Under the Technical Assistance & Training Agreement, John Royle has provided to Torrent Cables Ltd all processes, machine drawings, specifications & manufacturing skills as may be required for manufacturing of XLPE cables.

2000 - The Comp. has signed agreement with CDSL and NSDL for dematerialisation.
