Aptara transforms static online journal into open access publishing portal for plastic surgery

New Delhi, Aug 12 (ANI/Business Wire India): Aptara, a pioneer in digital publishing solutions, and Open Science Co., LLC, an Open Access medical publisher committed to the free and broad dissemination of medical knowledge, are pleased to announce the dramatic success of the first phase of development for the medical portal ePlasty.com.

The site houses the Open Access Plastic Surgery journal, ePlasty (www.eplasty.com), a PUBMED/NLM indexed medical journal, along with interactive forums, a virtual exhibit hall and other resources for plastic surgery, burn and wound care professionals.

Aptara designed and built the site for Open Science Co., LLC.

Aptara transformed Open Science's original Journal of Burns and Wounds, an online but static Web site, into ePlasty.com - a free, interactive and fully searchable website that addresses the entire range of plastic surgery and related specialties.

The site employs a custom digital-first workflow designed by Aptara for the rapid and efficient processing of content, from author submission to peer review, editing, and online posting.

Headquartered in the United States with operation centers in New Delhi and Pune that employ over 3,000 employees, the advanced content technology and development work for ePlasty was performed in Aptara's New Delhi facility.

'Unlike traditional journals which reject the majority of qualified articles due to page costs and space limitations, ePlasty publishes peer-reviewed, qualified articles, offering the broadest coverage and unlimited access and distribution of technical knowledge on plastic surgery,' said Dr. John Kucan of Open Science.

'Aptara's team of content IT professionals designed and built every inch of it from scratch, resulting in a site that is both easy to search and incredibly easy to manage. This has undoubtedly influenced its success - we've had a 25-fold increase in traffic since we launched ePlasty.com, and our readership is continually growing,' Kucan added.

'Aptara matched ePlasty's philosophy by pairing Open Access with open source,' said Dev Ganesan, Aptara's president and CEO.

'The combination of the site's open source architecture and Aptara's rapid publishing services makes doctors' research and surgical case studies readily accessible to teaching institutions and areas of the world that have never been served by professional journals. Our work with ePlasty.com truly embodies Aptara's mission of transforming content into knowledge - in this case, for the worldwide community of plastic surgery, burn and wound care professionals,' added Ganesan.

Aptara has already begun work on Phase 2 of the portal.

In the near future, ePlasty.com will launch a variety of innovative new content and delivery features. (ANI)
