On Friday, Jul 31 the major private carriers like Kingfisher, JetAir, GoAir, Spicejet and IndiGo came together under FIA to call on a strike on Aug 18 to signify the seriousness of the problems the industry was facing.

The airline operators asked the government to provide bailout claiming that the increased ATF prices and taxes amid the global economic crisis were unbearable.

Following this, the Aviation minister, Praful Patel warned the airlines against the strike as the DGCA could take action against them for disrupting flight schedules and causing public inconvenience. He also said that the government was in no position to provide financial aid to them.  Read:  ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ  / தமிழில்  Before the strike was formally called off by the FIA, carriers like MDLR Airlines, Paramount Airlines, Spice jet and IndiGo withdrew their particpation in the protest.
