Tata introduces Re 1 per call, talk unlimited

New Delhi, Sep 2: Tata Teleservices (TTSL) announced that from now it would charge customers on per call basis regardless of the time.

From now on, prepaid customers would be charged Re 1 and Rs 3 for STD for calling any mobile or land line subscribers.

'Our data shows that our subscribers talk at an average of two to three minutes on a local call or three to four minutes on an STD,' said Anil Sardana,TTSL Managing Director said at a press conference.

'While in the initial stage there might be a spurt in those numbers, we believe nobody would call just for the sake of calling because it is unlimited.'

At present, the average local call rates of TTSL are between 50 p to Re 1 and between Re 1 to Rs 1.5 for each STD call.

However, both CDMA and GSM said that TTSL would lose money in this plan.

'Considering that you have to pay a termination charge of 20 p for minute in a local call, TTSL will have to fork out Re 1 if a customer makes a five-minute call. So, they lose money,' said a senior executive of a competing CDMA company.  Read:  हिन्दी में  But analysts felt that subscribers would benefit as most calls extend two minutes. They said that this offer would aid STD callers.
