YEAR EVENTS
- The Company, a public sector undertaking[PSUs], covers the operations like construction of railway track, highways, bridges, tunnels, workshops, aircraft hangar, MS building, railways electrification, S and T works & project management and servicing.
1994 - IRCON has been winning a chain of awards since its inception & has received three awards two from Overseas Construction Council of India [OCCIs] for maximum foreign turnover & second best in repatriation of foreign exchange to India & a certificate of export excellence from the Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
1995 - Managing Director IRCON received the National Export Award of Ministry of Commerce from the Hon'ble President of India for 1992-93 on 26th August.
- The Comp. has received a record number of six export awards & a National bridge award during the year 1995-96 for its outstanding performance.
- On 26th August an award of Trophy from Ministry of Commerce for meritorious performance in 1992-93 in the field of exports.
- The Comp. has received in June a certificate for outstanding performance from the Government of People Republic of Bangladesh for completing contract no. 2/3C, road rehabilitation & maintenance project [NWs], Phase-II, in January, one year ahead of schedule & completing first among the rest of contractors.
- The Comp. has secured 'excellent' rating under the memorandum of understanding [MOUs] system for 1993-94 based on audited results & for 1994-95 based on provisional results from the Department of Public Enterprises.
- The Comp. has earned in June, ISO 9002 certificate from SGS Yarsley International Certification Services Limited of U.K. for construction including station building, platform shelter & allied work, multistoried building, associated electric work with plumbing, water supply, drainage & sewage work with fire protection system at Vashi, Belapur, Nerul, Jui Nagar stations & Turbo stores in New Mumbai.
1996 - The Comp. has received 'Excellent' rating under the Memorandum of Understanding between IRCON & Ministry of Railways for meeting its targets during 1994-95 & has achieved the targets during 1995-96 also.
- The Comp. once again achieved the laudable feat of securing ISO 9002-Quality Management Certificate - this time for Comp. as a whole for all its operations.
- Earlier the Comp. received ISO 9002 Certificate from SGS Yarsley International Certification Services Limited of U.K. for its works in Malaysia & New Mumbai in the years 1994 & 1995 respectively.
- To widen the opportunities IRCON has entered the arena of BOT/BOLT projects.
- During the year 1995-96, a special recruitment drive to fill up following backlog in vacancies of SC/ST was launched by Company.
- During the year the Comp. has made all round progress in the implementation of Hindi.
- IRCON is using 'slip form paying technique' in its Delhi-Mathura four laning project by using sophisticated machines like slip form paver & texturing & curing unit in the construction of concrete roads for first time in the Country.
- Bilingual software including DTP in Hindi has been successfully installed & being used to promote work in Hindi. INTERNET facility has been set up for accessing vital data for business development with various funding agencies like ADB, World Bank, etc. to maintain international competitiveness.
- The Comp. has installed documents/imaging system for filing & preserving important documents. In-house computer training centre is also being set up with interactive training tools based on CD-ROM & multimedia facilities to impart up-to-date training to the officers & staff of Company.
- The Comp. was awarded National Export Award of Ministry of Commerce for meritorious performance in the field of export during 1992-93.
- Four O.C.C.I. Export Awards for year 1994-95 from Overseas Construction Council of India
- Trophy for maximum foreign exchange earned & repatriated to India from overseas construction contracts.
- Trophy for maximum foreign business attempted.
- Trophy for second best in turnover in overseas construction projects.
- Certificate for maximum foreign works secured in new areas in construction contracts.
- The Comp. has been receiving OCCI awards for last 11 years in succession since 1984-85 & has in all received 21 awards from OCCI.
- All India Top Exporter Shield for year 1994-95 in the field of exports from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
- Outstanding Bridge National Award by Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers for bridge constructed in Indonesia.
- The name of Comp. was changed from 'Indian Railway Construction Company Limited' to 'Ircon International Limited' during the year with the approval of shareholders in the previous annual general meeting.
1997 - The Comp. has completed 13 works in India which include 25 KV AC electrification, supply & erection of traction sub-stations, MGR rail systems for thermal power projects, railway siding, bridges & tunnels, airport construction, buildings & complexes and provision of axle counters. The clients include Railways, PSUs like NTPC, Airport Authority, Indian Airlines, Central Coalfields Ltd., TISCO, etc.
- IRCON has received the prestigious awards during the year :- Top Exporter Shield - Project Exporter [Northern Regions] for 1993-94 for export excellence from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
- All India Top Exporter Shield for 1995-96 in the field of export from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
- Three O.C.C.I. Export Awards for 1995-96 from Overseas Construction Council of India.
1998 - The latest Internet & Intranet fast communication facilities are being introduced for instant communication across corporate office & project sites for effective project management.
- The Comp. was awarded the All India Special Shield for 1996-97 in the field of export from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
1999 - During the year, IRCON has successfully completed two projects abroad -- one each in Malaysia & Bangladesh -- & secured two contracts worth Rs. 200 million -- one each in Bangladesh & Malaysia.
- The Comp. has received two all India export awards - one each from OCCI & EEPC - for its performance in 1997-98.
- The Comp. has a liberal voluntary retirement scheme which has been availed by more than 230 surplus staff.
- IRCON has also created its own website in Hindi which has been highly appreciated by the Minister for Railways.
- O.C.C.I. Export Award for 1997-98 from Overseas Construction Council of India for 'maximum foreign business attempted'.
- All India Trophy for Highest Exporters 1997-98 [Turnkey Industrial Projects Exporters - Non-SSIs] in the field of export from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
- Regional Top Exporters Shield for 1996-97 in the field of export from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
- The Comp. has been declared as a Miniratna public enterprise by Government and consequently IRCON Board has been strengthened during the year with four nonofficial part-time directors with expertise in technical, management & legal fields.
2000 - The Comp. has signed a $21 millions contract for construction of 31.5 km long rail link in Malaysia.
- The Comp. has won three export awards for 1999-2000 from the Overseas Construction Council of India & EEPC -- for its performance in 1998-99.
- IRCON for first time, is constructing a cable stayed bridge at Krishnarajapuram, Bangalore, on the Bangalore-Chennai highway, with design & construction methodology sourced from BBR, Switzerland.
- IRCON has installed a small ISP set up after obtaining all India ISP licence & plans to launch the service shortly.
- The Comp. has won the O.C.C.I. Export Award for 1998-99 from Overseas Construction Council of India for 'second best performance in the category of maximum turnover in overseas construction projects'.
- The Comp. was awarded All India Trophy for Top Exporters in the category of Merchant Exporters for outstanding contribution to engineering exports during 1998-99 from Engineering Export Promotion Council [EEPCs].
2001 - Mr. Arun Prasada, Managing Director, of Comp. has taken over as the new Chairman of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises with effect from January 1. 2002
-Ircon International Ltd has informed the following changes in Board of Directors.Mr B S Sudhir Chandra, Member Staff, Railway Board, Ministry of Railways has been appointed as part-time [Govt. nominateds] Chairman of IRCON by Ministry of Railways in place of Mr i i M S Rana w e f March 27, 2002. Mr M Ravindra, retd. Chairman, Railway Board has been appointed as part-time non-official Director on the Board of IRCON w e f March 26, 2002.
2003 -Ministry of defence appointed Ircon to fence border at Gujarat.
2004
- Ircon International Ltd signs a $31.3 m contract with Ethiopian Road Authority for construction of Dera-Mechara Road Upgrading Project
2005
-IRCON gets Rs 31.9 cr Bangladesh Rlys contract
-Monorail Signs MoU With Ircon for building a monorail network in Delhi
2006
- Mr Ankush Krishan has been appointed Managing Director of Ircon International
